Department Description

Budget & Institutional Analysis (BIA) is a division of Finance and Resource Management that provides decision support on the efficient and effective management of campus budget resources to the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations & Administration, the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor and various campus leaders, groups and committees. In addition, the division provides policy analyses on a wide range of issues, including enrollment, instructional workload, faculty positions, student success and other institutional policies. Within BIA, the Institutional Analysis (IA) unit serves the campus at large and BIA by providing accurate and meaningful information about financial resources, enrollment, student academic outcomes, university rankings, students, academic and staff employees, faculty positions and instructional workload in support of decisions about various matters of institutional policy; partners with other decision support units as a collaborative catalyst to place actionable knowledge about UC Davis and its programs into the hands of executive decision makers; designing tools that provide easy and transparent access to mission-critical data; developing and maintaining information systems that enable units to efficiently and effectively manage enrollment, the operating budget, instruction, and faculty resources.



Job Summary

The Information Systems Analyst is a key member of the Partnerships and Student Outcomes Analytics team. This position is a member of the Partnerships and Student Outcome Analytics team within Budget and Institutional Analysis which is responsible for supporting data-informed decision-making across UC Davis through the use and support of technology tools for analytical work and projects. This role will provide technical knowledge to support data visualization applications and deliver data analytics services to data partners across the UC Davis campus. The incumbent will work independently and within a team structure to provide expertise in support of the data visualization services and platform, reporting, and analytics solutions offered by Budget and Institutional Analysis.

The analyst will provide Tableau Server administration, dashboard development, and data transformation design to ensure accurate and efficient utilization of Tableau tools for data visualization and reporting.

The incumbent will work closely with campus IT to manage the enterprise Tableau application platform and Tableau service offering. In addition, the individual will work closely with campus users and data warehouse developers to develop and support insightful Tableau dashboards, data visualizations, and reports for campus-wide and public use.

The incumbent will collaborate with various stakeholders, including senior-level analysts, faculty, and staff across all colleges and administrative units to support the strategic goals of the institution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, computer science, data analytics or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in data analytics platform configuration and administration (platforms such as Tableau Server, Alteryx, Looker, QuickSight)
  • Experience in data preparation and visualization/dashboard development (tools such as Tableau Prep and Desktop/Creator, QlikView, Alteryx, PowerBI, Looker)

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance best practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience and/or certification(s) in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and Tableau Server
  • Experience in higher education or institutional research.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Familiarity with web content management platforms (Drupal, Plone, etc.), web publishing (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and embedding dashboards in webpages.
