The Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) at NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position, at the rank of Industry Assistant or Industry Associate Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2024. CUSP seeks candidates that can contribute to its urban science and policy line of expertise in the following areas: data, policy and decision making; civic analytics, innovation, technology and cities; digital geography; computational social science; data visualization, and data informed urban policy. We are interested in candidates with a focus on the intersection between cities, science, technology, innovation and public good.

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., degrees in engineering, computer science and the social sciences with a focus on data informed urban policy studies, public health, urban environmentalism and sustainability or digital geography), and a strong record of industry or public-sector experience, technical innovation, and/or scholarship in CUSP’s areas of focus. Ideal candidates should have a strong record of excellence in teaching and mentorship at all levels, from introductory to advanced studies. We especially seek faculty colleagues who have multi- or transdisciplinary academic backgrounds and whose work is concerned with themes of urban science and policy approaches to cities and complexity, with attention to social/civic engagement, governance, sustainability, livability, resilience and/or justice.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual (9 month) base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 for the Industry Assistant Professor rank and $90,000 - $140,000 for the Industry Associate Professor rank.  New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
