The Industrial Hygienist III works to prevent occupational illness and disease, assesses workplace occupational health and safety hazards, recommends control measures, supports efforts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and identifies industry standards of practice that provide a safe working environment. Under general supervision of the ESH Assistant Director, the Industrial Hygienist III will provide program management in areas such as environmental sampling, hazard surveys and workplace evaluations, identification of exposure criteria, job hazard analysis, occupational exposure monitoring, chemical inventory management, work planning and control, training, and monitoring. This position will provide increased oversight and rigor to multiple ESH programs, especially in the areas of hazard analysis, work task evaluation, and documentation of safety and radiological systems, leading to improvements in human performance and reductions in exposure to workplace hazards. The position interacts with Ames Laboratory staff, scientists, students, visitors, ISU Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) colleagues, and DOE personnel.
