Summary of Duties:

This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing major components of environmental, occupational and public health and safety programs to minimize hazards and meet compliance requirements for the WSU Vancouver campus. and surrounding areas.

Specific duties include evaluating work practices and equipment, investigating accidents, exposure monitoring, development and maintenance of health/safety resource material, managing hazardous waste and conducting relevant training.

Job Functions:

25% - Safety Training/External Liaison/Emergency Management

25% - Occupational, Environmental, and Public Health and Safety Programs and Policies

15% - Administrative EH&S Support

10% - Campus Risk Program Coordinator

10% - Oversee and Lead Campus Sustainability Activities

10% - Hazardous Waste Management

5% - Other


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in occupational safety and/or health, industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, chemical, mechanical or sanitary engineering, environmental science, nursing, medicine, biology, or related field AND three (3) years of experience as an industrial hygienist. A Master’s degree involving major study in industrial hygiene or related field will substitute for one (1) year of industrial hygiene experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license.


Additional Qualifications:

Must have, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong computer skills including Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Experience in environmental, health, and safety programs at a higher education institution.

Monthly Salary:

$5,229/month - $6,862/month ($62,748-$82,344/year), (step A through L). Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
