What You Will Do

This position is an opportunity for a motivated, innovative, and customer focused professional to join our team. The Deployed Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Division is a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional organization with a focused mission to provide services that help the Laboratory, including programs and facility operations, accomplish work safely and in compliance with DOE, regulatory, and LANL requirements.  Deployed ES&H provides customer support and oversight while integrating and coordinating ES&H programs, products, and services to include, but not limited to Industrial Hygiene & Safety (IHS), Radiation Protection, and Environmental Protection.

Reporting to the LANL Deployed ES&H Team Leader within CPCS, the IHS Professional is responsible for implementing LANL IHS programs, policies and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards. The IHS Professional will provide daily IHS support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers, compliance with Laboratory ES&H requirements, and mission success.

IHS Professional 1 works under limited direction and receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, determines approach to solutions, and plans schedule and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene and safety hazards and the application of controls.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to industrial hygiene and safety, including 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.

  • Working knowledge of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene monitoring and sample analysis.

  • Skills to communicate major elements of industrial hygiene/safety to technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene/safety risk assessments and corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge, and demonstrated application, of DOE requirements related to industrial hygiene and safety.

  • Broad knowledge of LANL organizations, operations, and activities.

  • Experience providing ESH oversight of subcontractor activities.

  • Knowledge and application of LANL ESH requirements, including Integrated Work Management and other industrial hygiene and safety procedures.

  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in several IH program areas, including chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment, and other IH areas.

Education Required:  A bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline and a minimum of two years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and professional-level experience.
