Duties & Responsibilities

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks a talented and creative individual to assist scientists and engineers in the design and visualization of biological and synthetic machines and materials. The Industrial Designer (ID) will assist scientists and engineers with creative thinking and ideation by both practice and example; they will assist in the onboarding of new personnel the maintenance and management of the laboratory and the preparation of schematics and illustrations for published reports, grant proposals, and books. More specifically the successful candidate will: 

  • Create technical drawings/sketches/graphics and representations of concept designs such that construction information and strategic concepts can be reviewed by other team members and used for reports, presentations, and grant/patent applications.
  • Mentor and further develop creativity amongst scientists andengineers
  • Provide design input on biological and synthetic machines and materials. 
  • Photograph and/or provide video footage. 
  • Support Visual Organization
  • Assist with general Lab and equipmentmaintenance

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related discipline, at least 3 years post degree experience working in industrial design and/or technical graphics. Strong skills in Solid Works(CAD). Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, andPremiere.
