Position Description

A key member of the Individual Giving team, this role plans and executes the identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of the Harvard Art Museums’ individual giving recognition circles and their donors. The Associate serves as a partner in the management of the Art Museums’ leadership volunteer groups – the Director’s Advisory Council and Curatorial Committees – as well as the museums’ leadership giving circle based in Germany, the Verein. Partnering with the Individual Giving Team, this position will lead the relaunch and management of the young patrons’ leadership giving program along with the gifts of art and planned giving societies.

Under the direction of the Director of Individual Giving, this position is responsible for the planning, execution, and growth of the young patrons’ program (leadership giving level donors ages 21-45) as well as the cultivation, stewardship, prospect identification, and solicitation activities for the program. The Associate will be responsible for meeting all quarterly and annual goals for this group and tracking all activities in the database.

Additionally, the Associate will partner with the Individual Giving Team to relaunch the museums’ planned giving society as well as develop and launch the new gifts of art donor recognition society.

The Individual Giving Associate will support the Chief Development Officer with Director’s Advisory Council activities, including scheduling meetings, producing and disseminating materials, and recording meeting minutes and next steps. The Associate will work with the Curator of the Busch-Reisinger Museum and serve as the primary Institutional Advancement liaison with the Verein, working with their volunteer leadership to steward German Friends members through communications and engagement opportunities, including the support of their annual meeting and travel programs. The Associate will also assist in the management of the Curatorial Committees, including staffing monthly strategy sessions and select engagement events, as well as tracking the identification and stewardship of current and prospective committee members.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (education beyond high school may count towards years of experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Specific experience in an arts-related context and/or higher education preferred. Experience and demonstrated success working at donor cultivation, annual giving, or leadership-level membership or engagement programs. Experience planning and managing high-level, donor-centric stewardship and cultivation programs, events, and travel programs. Demonstrated marketing and communications experience preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong technical skills are required. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills are essential, with a proven track record of developing successful relationships with high-level donors and prospects, colleagues, and external vendors; multi-tasking, responsiveness, creativity, exceptional organization, detail-oriented work ethic, time management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, busy environment, and being a team player are all expected. This position may require occasional work beyond the regular schedule including some evenings and/or weekends.

Physical Requirements

Primary work takes place in an office environment. Some tasks may require being on campus or in other off-site locations for a period of time. Sitting or standing for periods of time. Some repetitive motion. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Schedule

Full time. Monday through Friday. 35 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Occasional domestic and international travel may be needed.
