Required Degree: A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration or other appropriate discipline is required; Master of Fine Arts degree is preferred. 

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience: The Department of Design at Brigham Young University seeks qualified applicants for an adjunct faculty position in Illustration beginning Fall 2024. Professional experience in the field is required; teaching experience at the college/university level is desired.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will present a professional portfolio of original work that demonstrates clear and effective visual communication of concepts and narratives, have a record of professional illustration activity including exhibitions commissioned and published works, an understanding of representational drawing media, tools, materials, techniques, and texts; applied principles and elements of design, composition, and pictorial space, as well as an understanding of contemporary issues and emerging trends in the field of illustration, and familiarity with the historical events and prominent personalities in the discipline.

Qualified candidates will be able to: (1) speak and write effectively; (2) lecture and explain concepts clearly; (3) demonstrate current studio methods and media techniques; (4) design and conduct effective learning exercises and projects; (5) provide effective critiques and evaluations of student work.

Duties/Expectations: Teach undergraduate course Illustration Fundamentals, with the option of teaching additional sections concurrently, or in future semesters, on a part-time basis for the illustration area of the Department of Design using the department-approved curriculum. The exercise of such option would be at the discretion of the Department of Design, based on the current needs of the Illustration area, and dependent on the candidate's maintenance of acceptable job performance and good standing with the University. The position will require lecturing, creating assignments, grading, critiques, communication/responding to student emails. Part-time faculty are not required to hold office hours, attend staff meetings, serve on committees, or mentor students

If you have prior college teaching experience, please include a link to 5-10 formal student evaluations of your teaching and 5-10 representative examples of your students' work (on a cloud server such as Google Drive or Dropbox).
