We Are: Fermilab is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole. Intensity Frontier Fellowships: Fermilab offers Intensity Frontier Fellowships (IFFs) to outstanding researchers in the areas of neutrino physics, muon physics, and other topics in the Intensity Frontier. We seek researchers with a doctorate in particle or nuclear physics who will use the resources available at Fermilab to make a major contribution to the Intensity Frontier Program being pursued at the laboratory. Fellows receive funding to pursue novel concepts that enhance the current program at Fermilab, and allow enhanced participation in current and future Fermilab experimental and theory efforts. The fellowships provide the ability for researchers to spend significant time at Fermilab, with the goal of expanding and sustaining an intellectual center of excellence within the laboratory. There are three tracks for the Fellowship: Track 1 Support for experimental or theoretical researchers wishing to pursue novel concepts with Fermilab scientific staff to enhance or strengthen the current program at Fermilab. Track 2 Support for researchers transitioning from outside the field of the Intensity Frontier, e.g. from the Energy Frontier, Cosmic Frontier, Nuclear Physics, etc. Track 3 Support for researchers who play a critical role in experiment operations. Eligibility: • Ph.D. in Experimental or Theoretical Particle or Nuclear Physics. • Successful candidates will be resident at Fermilab for 50% or more of the duration of the Fellowship. • During the requested award period, candidates must be employed by a U.S. or non-U.S. institution for at least six months after the end of the fellowship. Retirees and Fermilab employees are not eligible. Fermilab is committed to recruiting and developing the most hardworking people. Further details and suggestions for applicants: • T erm: 6 months to 1 year, starting no earlier than March 17, 2023. • Renewable for a maximum of 2 years, with a new proposal. • Financial support: up to 50% of researcher's total current compensation, reimbursed to the researcher's home institution, with the remainder of salary paid by researcher's home institution. Please note that overhead/indirect costs cannot be paid to universities, since the work proposed will be done at Fermilab. • Award - may include a travel budget to enable regular trips to remote experimental locations when appropriate, and to conferences to present work. • The research proposal should clearly identify the Fellowship Track (1, 2 or 3), and with whom the applicant will be collaborating with at Fermilab. • A financial plan and a travel plan must be included with all applications. • A brief summary of the proposed research should be included in addition to the full research plan. Contact information for a financial contact officer at the home institution must be provided if salary support is requested. Applicant should indicate the dates of current and expected term of employment. At least two letters of support should be uploaded by letter-writers in the reference letters section. At least one letter should come from a Fermilab collaborator. |
