The International Center for Law and Religion Studies is a global academic leader in the field of international religious freedom. Founded in 2000, the Center is part of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, one of the largest private universities in the United States. The Center's mission is to "help secure the blessings of religious liberty for all," through scholarship, networking, educational activities, and law reform efforts.
 

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS POSITION

The Conference Liaison is a key part of the management team of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies, helping organize and execute many of the Center¿s highest profile events, including the Annual Law and Religion Symposium, the Religious Freedom Annual Review, and several of the Center¿s International Regional Conferences. Responsibilities include:

  • Conference Management - arrange logistics and provide administrative support, including preparation and dissemination of informational materials and communications regarding the event. This may include, but is not limited to media services, catering, marketing, program, travel, meals, and lodging.
  • General assistance to Center conference teams with event planning and coordination for Center conferences in the US and abroad.
  • Liaison will work closely with student employees and volunteers and all dimensions of conference planning and execution, including, travel airport pickups, special needs, hosting, interpretation services.
  • Center accounting for reimbursements, purchases, purchases, wire transfers, monitor budgets, track expenses, request payments for conferences, and coordinate with Law School Controller's office for accurate accounting and tracking for the Center

 

WHAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS ROLE?
Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree OR minimum of four years of office experience in event planning and project management, with a track record of interacting in a professional and diplomatic way

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree AND two to four years of office experience in event planning and project management, with a track record of interacting in a professional and diplomatic way  
     

SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC.
Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills; ability to interact with high-level academic, government, and religious leaders from around the world
  • Strong English skills for composition of letters and emails
  • Flexible, creative, and adaptable
  • Able to solve problems
  • Work as a team member and work independently
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of managing the details of complex academic conferences
  • Experience in using a full suite of electronic office software, including MS Office and the internet
  • Financial management experience

Preferred:

  • International experience and an ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of countries and faith traditions.
  • Experience as an executive administrative assistant or other relevant experience
  • Dependable, well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and see projects through to successful completion
  • Proficient in a foreign language, preferably Spanish
  • Accounting knowledge and experience
