Description

This project focuses on polymer composites thin films that exhibit enhanced dielectric properties and low water vapor transmission rate. Our goal is to investigate hydration mechanism and the charge transport in thin dielectric films deposited  on graphene using a non-contact microwave  technique ( https://dx.doi.org/10.1021/acs.jpcb.9b11622)  and monolayer graphene ( https://dx.doi.org/10.1021/acs.jpcb.9b11622 ) as a water sensor at the molecular level. Our measurement techniques and numerical models based on constrained regularization algorithms allow us to link these measurements with other techniques including fluorescence and neutron scattering. We are especially interested in investigating structural and molecular attributes that control diffusion of water vapor in molecular glasses modified with nanoscale inclusions.
