Description of Work Unit | WORK UNIT HDS Facilities provides building and support services for the department of Housing and Dining Services by ensuring a clean, safe and maintained living and learning environment for internal and external customers and University guests. It supports the Department of Housing and Dining Services and other auxiliaries by providing custodial, maintenance, materials management, and customer service to maintain the requirements of physical properties and equipment. Position Summary | Perform planned preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment and makes repairs as needed. This position is an journey level technician which is responsible for maintaining and repairing HVAC Systems. These systems include but are not limited to, fans, sheaves, belts, bearings, motors, pumps and filters on HVAC equipment such as air handling, unit heaters, fan coil units, heating pumps, forced air heating/cooling systems, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, water heaters, exhaust fans, kitchen hoods, etc. |

Duty/Responsibility | • Performs preventative maintenance on a variety of HVAC equipment for building ventilation systems. These systems include but not limited to dining halls, office buildings, educational instruction spaces, apartments, support facilities, and Resident living spaces. • Utilizes a variety of proprietary software to stop, start and monitor equipment to perform preventive maintenance. • Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC equipment such as air handling units, unit heaters, fan coil units, heating pumps, forced air heating/cooling systems. • Accesses a variety of spaces not limited to basements, tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, chases, and roofs using stairs, ladders, lifts, scaffolds, access hatches and other means to service or inspect equipment. • Provides input for scheduling daily work assignments within established guidelines and procedures. • In emergency situations may shut down building infrastructure systems, e.g., steam and/or water to prevent damage to critical equipment or health/life safety. |
