Requirements

Georgetown University’s Planning and Facilities Management department is seeking a HVAC Mechanic who will perform maintenance and preventative maintenance work campus-wide to all HVAC equipment up to DDC panel/energy management panels, VAV controls, etc.  The HVAC Mechanic is expected to:

  • Performs technical trades work to maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning and/or refrigeration equipment as part of the services provided by the facilities management department to maintain University buildings.
  • Responsible for all repairs /maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC / energy management panels (includes, but not limited to all work associated with pneumatic thermostats, calibrating; pneumatic actuators, main air distribution lines; branch air distribution lines; all pneumatic end devices, compressors, dryers, filters, and PRV stations; VAV Controls). 
  • Performs journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices. 
  • Provides daily maintenance support to building users to respond to calls for service, make scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and similar service. 
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects. Workers use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observe all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing their duties.

Work Interactions

Depending upon area assigned, this position reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor or one of the Zone Managers or to the Preventive Maintenance Manager along with tradesmen and trades helpers.  The work of the incumbents provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. Qualifications

  • Academic Level: High School or GED required
  • Practical Experience: Requires minimum of five years’ experience in commercial and residential HVAC/refrigeration
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Requires Universal EPA – CFC certification.  Requires completion of apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in the heating/ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration trade. Must have general knowledge of DDC/EMS system and computer controls and a good working knowledge of pneumatic controls.  Must be computer literate.
  • A valid driver’s permit from Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia is required.
