HVAC Asst Shop Supervisor – Controls

Johns Hopkins Facilities and Real Estate is seeking an HVAC Asst Shop Supervisor - Controls .

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, evaluate, troubleshoot, repair, and performing preventative maintenance on controls systems, equipment, and components for HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot controllers & control system networks with an understanding of electrical diagrams.
  • Prepare documentation and control flow charts.
  • Monitor and adjust computer-based BAS program for proper HVAC comfort and energy management control.
  • Repair controls for HVAC equipment, install new controls, replace defective controls and accessories, troubleshoots, and tests HVAC equipment using controls.
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal code requirements and reports back to supervisor.
  • Provides technical assistance to installation sub-contractors.
  • Identify, analyze and diagnose BAS and system problems through remote interface means or directly while on site.
  • Review all work orders before and after completion.
  • Provide mentoring/training to staff members.
  • Assist in Hiring and training new employees.
  • Developing training materials and conducting training sessions and workshops.
  • Monitoring both individual and team job performance metrics through Maximo (CMMS). Inform supervisors of completed and outstanding work orders.
  • Schedules, assigns responsibility, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing and motivating employees.
  • Assisting with other administrative tasks, when required.
  • Attend and participate in meetings regarding work to be done; attend training classes.
  • Must have the ability to respond to emergency needs 24/7 as required.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in installing, repairing and maintaining equipment in licensed trade.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Ability to prepare estimates and order materials for maintenance and repair jobs.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining operating conditions.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, supervise and inspect the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems. Ability to read blueprints and thrive in a construction environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or general education equivalent.
  • Journeymen License (HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical) required.
  • Six years’ experience in the indicated field, including 2 years’ experience in a similar supervisor/lead role.
  • Experience with liaising between management and employees.
  • Exceptional ability to motivate employees and foster teamwork.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and reporting job performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, excel (Microsoft products)
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Requirements

  • Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
