Posting Context Statement
Under the supervision of the HR Director, the HR Specialist is responsible for providing support to Human Resources efforts by assisting customers (phone, e-mail, voice mail, and in-person)
Position Overview
The HR Specialist will support the UI recruitment process and other HR related duties.
Duties may include:
  • Apply Electronic Personnel Action Forms (EPAFs)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies and procedures and funding source requirements
  • Support the UI recruitment process
  • Research problems, rules, policies and procedures and explaining to staff and potential employees
  • Respond to requests for information
  • Review, develop and maintain accurate and timely data, records and correspondence
  • Collect, analyze and compile information
  • Assist with training on related topics
  • Maintain and ensure a confidential environment at all times
  • Provide customer service
  • Perform related work contributing to team efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Two years of experience working in Human Resources or Payroll
  • Three years of customer service experience

Demonstrated experience with/in:
  • Mentoring, conducting training and making presentations to small or large groups
  • Working with individuals of various backgrounds
  • Developing, evaluating and recommending program procedures, written training materials and manuals
  • Providing technical program assistance to staff
Required Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • None
Additional Preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of UI policies, procedures and practices, and familiarity with UI departments and services
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other employees

Experience with/in:
  • HR Banner module
  • Working in a higher education environment
  • Working in a payroll office setting and/or possess strong bookkeeping skills
  • Working with international employment authorizations and tax treaties
  • Reviewing documents for compliance with established procedures
