Position: Human Resources/Payroll Specialist

Location: Athens Campus

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Director of Human Resources

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and experience. State of Georgia benefits package.

Position Overview:

As a Human Resources/Payroll Specialist, you will play a crucial role in managing both onboarding and payroll functions. This position requires a candidate with an understanding of human resources practices and payroll administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll administration, interpersonal skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and answer questions for current and prospective employees.
  • Process and manage all aspects of the payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Process garnishments, reissue payroll checks, payroll deductions, and miscellaneous payline information.
  • Address employee inquiries and concerns related to HR and payroll matters.
  • Work in a collaborative effort with faculty and staff to ensure the Human Resources department has adjunct faculty letters of agreement each semester.
  • Create and maintain Excel Spreadsheets, and prepare letters utilizing Microsoft Word.
  • Process employment verification requests.
  • Assist in onboarding new hires and conducting orientation sessions with federal work-study students.
  • Responsible for checking the time & labor system daily to ensure accuracy.
  • Processes end of month fringe closeouts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree *and* Three (3) years of payroll or related accounting experience.

Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PeopleSoft HCM and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with managing Time and Labor processing systems.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven work experience with payroll systems and/or experience within institutions of higher education, which includes demonstrated direct responsibility for entering and submitting payroll.
