Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Employment, the Human Resources Officer functions as a part of a team and serves as a primary consultant for temporary recruiting needs within assigned University departments regarding human resources services. Serves as a key contact to external constituencies and those interested in applying for jobs at Boston College.

Responsibilities include recruitment planning for nonexempt and exempt positions utilizing a variety of targeted approaches to advertising and recruitment, reviewing and prescreening resumes/applications, behavioral based interviewing, skills evaluation, and hiring requiring an understanding of compensation practices.

Will set salaries with hiring managers for nonexempt and exempt hires up to the MRP and promotions up to a 10% increase; all other salaries are set in collaboration with the Compensation Office. Serves as a primary contact to University department management and employees in providing day to day employee relations within the temporary/term appointed assignments.

Collaborates with appropriate central HR and departmental Human Resources staff to investigate and bring corrective action cases to resolution.

Collaborates with other Human Resources staff to provide support to departments in all areas of employee services.

Will also provide day to day functional supervision of Employment Office front desk staff to ensure that office operations are efficient and that a high level of customer service is provided. Must demonstrate a professional and personal care for others, have a proven ability to promote the common good of the operation and take responsibility for the services of the department.

Must be successful in promoting an organizational culture and climate that fully welcomes diversity and inclusiveness for all members of the Boston College community.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

HR Officer Level 1: 1-3 years, $57,850 - $72,300

HR Officer Level II: 3-5 years, $65,450 - $81,800


Requirements

Bachelor's Degree is required with a concentration in Human Resources. Minimum of 2-4 years progressively responsible experience in a team based Human Resources organization, preferably within a high volume recruiting environment

Key requirements include: proven ability to provide sound advice in a complex organization, with an understanding of the big picture perspective; an understanding of the "customer" in a university environment, and demonstrated experience working in a high volume, fast paced environment.

Must have solid experience utilizing current technologies including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and especially web based ATS, preferably PeopleSoft version 8.9 or higher. Must also have a proven ability to be organized, handle confidential information and interact effectively with a diverse population; must be able to work under pressure and in a changing environment.

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully promote a work environment that values diversity and supports respectful interactions. Must also have a working knowledge of state and federal laws governing human resources practices. Relevant experience in a Higher Education environment is highly desirable.

A second language, especially Spanish or Portuguese, is preferred.
