Description

Under the direct supervision of the HR Operations Manager, and under the general direction of the Sr. HR Business Partner, incumbent provides staff personnel services and support for staff within the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) in the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM). This position is part of a team of HR Generalists supporting HR functions in the DGSOM Dean’s Office, Department of Pathology, and CTSI. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating processes for all staff actions involving CTSI staff employees, student interns, work study students, volunteers and researchers. You will be responsible for posting of new jobs, and monitoring and directing the flow applicants to departmental managers. Incumbent advises managers and assists applicants of the new-hire process. The incumbent ensures that all milestones of new applicants and chosen applicants are met in coordination with the HR Talent Acquisition office, Security, IT, Finance and the Occupational Health Office. Responsible for welcoming new applicants, and if needed, explaining benefits and ensuring compliance with mandatory testing and verifications per UC policy and Homeland Security requirements. As our Human Resources Generalist, you will serve as an ongoing resource for personnel and payroll policy questions from managers and staff. The HR Generalist uses multiple human-resource-related systems including UCPath (PeopleSoft) and online recruitment systems. You will be responsible for guiding managers and supervisors on non-routine staff actions, such as merit/equity reviews, promotions, transfers (in or out), reclassifications, mandatory step-reviews for covered (bargaining unit) staff. Works collaboratively with Management for reclassifications, equity/salary reviews, during layoff process, as well as confidential staff legal or disciplinary issues. Salary Range: $67,100-$151,100

Qualifications

REQUIRED: * Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related degree, or six (6) years’ experience in personnel-payroll analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Skill in resolving complex personnel issues involving interpretation and application of established policies and procedures. * Ability to accurately calculate eligibility levels and leave milestones and target dates for a myriad of personnel actions based on length of service and UC policy. * Ability to accurately calculate and enter payroll and appointment entries and updates as needed * Skill in recognizing recruiting requirements of various job classifications and titles. * Ability to distinguish bargaining agreement requirements of various job classifications and titles. * Demonstrated effective written, oral and listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. * Ability to appropriately maintain the confidentiality of information contained in personnel records or verbally contributed by staff clients. PREFERRED: * Detailed working knowledge of University Personnel, Benefits, Payroll and University agreement policies and procedures. * Proficient with UCPATH training and the ability to initiate appropriate activity using this system. * Demonstrated knowledge of UCPATH, CDW, CORNERSTONE and other University personnel and finance programs. * Working knowledge of the University recruitment procedures. * Working knowledge of procedures for IT privileges and Email assignment.
