Position Summary

Reporting to the Mailman School of Public Health/ICAP Director, Human Resources (HR), the temporary Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day guidance to ICAP New York on a range of HR-related activities including full cycle recruitment and leave management.  The incumbent will provide high-level customer service to all colleagues, regardless of their location.

Hybrid work schedule is available.


Responsibilities

  • Manages the recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, and temporary employees by developing creative strategies in sourcing active and passive candidates by headhunting, networking, and screening. (20%)
  • Work closely with management on all diversity initiatives involving recruitment to ensure fairness in hiring practices. (15%)
  • Ensures hiring managers have temporary access to Columbia University recruitment systems (Talentlink/Interfolio) and ICAP’s internal applicant tracking system (ICAPacity). (15%)
  • Screens CVs and resumes and issues interview recommendations to hiring managers; schedules and/or conducts phone screenings and interviews. (10%)
  • Acts as a super user for ICAP’s LinkedIn Recruiter Account. (10%)
  • Collaborates with the Director, HR and Human Resources Generalist to develop competitive salary offers and ensures the required reference and background clearances are completed prior to candidate’s start date. (10%)
  • Develops and maintains ICAP NY organization charts. (5%)
  • Informs employees of Federal, State, and New York laws and University policies regarding leave; liaises closely with colleagues within ICAP HR, School and University HR offices to ensure all leaves are appropriately documented and reporting requirements are met. (5%)
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality and sensitivity in all HR-related matters. (5%)
  • Completes special projects and performs other related duties as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience, plus three years of related experience
  • 3+ years of progressive and successful HR or sourcing and recruiting experience within multi-cultural non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, private foundations, or the international corporations
  • Ability to prioritize work related demands and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
  • High level and effective interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of HR experience within an international development or humanitarian relief organization and recruitment/retention under United States Government-funded grants and contracts
  • Knowledge of applicant tracking systems or other common HRIS systems or platforms
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources Management or Public Administration related fields
  • PHR, GPHR, SHRM-CP Certification
