Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing a broad spectrum of duties including supporting the performance management, employee relations, training and development, data analysis, and employee engagement to the Christian Brothers University workforce. Responsibilities are varied, requiring a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, independent judgment, detail-orientation and multi-tasking.  With an emphasis on support to leadership, the faculty and staff, the Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for maintaining solid Human Resources practices, including compliance with all federal and state employment regulations; as well as creating and maintaining high levels of employee engagement at the University, with the goal of retaining top talent. The Human Resources Generalist will assist in administration and implementation of broad human resources related programs and projects, as well as coordinate day-to-day functions. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function as needed, including record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry. Complete special assignments and projects as required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation; benefits; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; recognition; occupational health and safety; backgrounds; and training and development.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
  • Conducts audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.
  • Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of human resources functions
  • Strong organization and time management/project management skills necessary to prioritize and manage multiple, complex projects, potentially with conflicting priorities; ability to react quickly in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, act with integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate work with diverse groups of employees
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and use sound judgment in decision making
  • Experience with Banner Software, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with applicant tracking and performance management systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a human resources related field or equivalent years of experience.
  • PHR/SPHR Preferred
