Job Overview

The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati at the University of Cincinnati is accepting applications for a Director of Human Resources.  This fast-paced position is actively involved in all aspects of the human resources functions in the college including recruitment and hiring; payroll administration; position maintenance; timekeeping; leave of absence administration; responding to inquiries from constituents; report preparation; consulting with department heads, faculty and staff; and much more.

 

The successful candidate will have prior university or college experience as a human resources generalist.  In addition, the person must have strong organizational skills and time management skills as the work in this position is very transactional with several processing deadlines each month.  The College of Arts & Sciences is one of the largest colleges at the university consisting of 21-departments with more than 400 full-time represented faculty members, over 180 unrepresented staff employees and in excess of 8,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

Provides consulting to assigned departments and colleges on a variety of complex and often confidential Human Resources issues.


Essential Functions
  • Provide advice and counsel to employees, supervisors and administrators on Human Resource policy, hiring, performance, discipline and grievance related issues.
  • Responsible for interpretation and compliance with all applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Monitor effectiveness of services and performance against benchmarks to ensure best practice approach; compile data; prepare and summarize reports.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and university rules policies and procedures.
  • Oversee recruitment and hiring process, ensuring the appropriate budget exists for all positions and HR actions.
  • Prepare, approve and review Position Maintenance Requests, Requests for Reassignments and PCR’s.
  • Must maintain confidentiality with high level of integrity. Responsible for accurate and timely storage of HR-related documents in accordance with UC’s Records Retention Schedule.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a closely related discipline


Required Experience

Seven (7) years of Human Resources experience.

  • Prior college or university experience in human resources
  • Familiarity with UC-Flex HR functions and SuccessFactors a plus
  • Previous experience with UC systems, policies and procedures
