Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Human Resources serves the ECU community through innovation and action in the development and management of the University’s human resources. The staff works to support the mission of the University with an overarching commitment to outstanding customer service and accountability. The department consists of seven units that oversee the entire human resources function to include policy administration, recruitment and selection, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, career development and training, classification and compensation, information systems, and data reporting. Personnel matters are governed by state statutes, UNC Policy Manual, and The Code of the University of North Carolina, and most processes and actions are prescribed by these governing documents. Human Resources plays a critical role in ensuring ECU is accountable and compliant in terms of Federal, State, and UNC System human resources practices.
Job Duties
This consultant will be one of seven consultants responsible for maintaining the classification system for all SHRA/CSS/EHRA positions with a significant role in carrying out all salary administration duties to include the quarterly report, weekly submissions for salary adjustments, following salary guidelines as required by General Administration and the Board of Governors, monitoring of temporary adjustments salary, surveys and other special initiatives (FLSA, the annual raise processes, reporting needs,  etc.). The incumbent must possess a strong understanding of compensation practices. Position must be knowledgeable of salary administration policies and procedures to guide hiring officials with regard to appropriate salary amounts and equity issues.
This position will fulfill an advisory role to Deans and Unit Heads regarding position design, starting new programs, and any other concerns over any area of position management. Individual position and/or group classification reviews are to be conducted by the consultant with the ultimate objective to ensure that internal equity is maintained between all positions and that they remain properly classified as changes occur in the duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
