HUMAN RESOURCES BUSINESS PARTNER, McGovern Institute, to manage human resources (HR) activities at a vibrant interdisciplinary neuroscience research facility (~300 personnel) comprised of world-renowned faculty members and senior researchers, postdocs, administrative/technical/support staff, research affiliates, and visitors.  Will serve as the primary resource on all HR-related matters. Will manage HR administrative processes including the preparation and submission of all appointment information (new hire/extension/termination transactions); coordinate annual salary/performance reviews for administrative, support, and sponsored research staff; advise foreign nationals on visa processes, coordinating new visas and extensions (J1/H1B/TN/B1); ensure weekly payroll approvals and vacation/sick time reporting; prepare staff promotion cases; serve as a resource for hiring managers on recruitment and staffing, serious search process, compensation, hiring plans, and job postings; prepare employment offers and provide new hire onboarding; oversee annual outside professional activities (OPA) reporting process; support supervisors with performance management and employee relations matters; serve as the affirmative action officer and act as mediator in conflict resolution cases; ensure compliance with MIT policies and relevant laws; and work closely with the School of Science, International Scholars Office, central HR, Payroll, Technology Licensing Office, and other relevant offices. Will be supervised by the assistant director for administration.


Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least four years’ direct HR experience; knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and current HR principles and practices; excellent listening, communication, facilitation, and mediation skills; ability to prioritize in a busy environment and to work both independently and as part of a team; and discretion and good judgment with confidential information.  PREFERRED:  experience at MIT or in a university research setting, and HR certification (SHRM/PHR).  Job #20608-8
