As the Human Resource Business Partner you will lead and manage the functions of human resource (HR) services and programs for WSU Tri-Cities. As the Campus partner and consultant to senior leadership, management, and employees on HR matters, you will utilize your knowledge of employment laws, policies, and regulations to independently provide guidance and consultation in areas of:

  • Recruitment

  • Classification and compensation

  • Corrective and disciplinary action

  • Training and development

  • Interpretation and application of laws, rules, policies and procedures

  • Appeals, grievances or unemployment hearings

  • Performance management

  • Program or policy development

  • Career counseling

  • Organizational analysis or development

  • Employee recognition

  • Other functions relating to Human Resource management 

While WSU Tri-Cities is primarily supported by an onsite Human Resource Business Partner and Human Resource Assistant, you will be part of the university wide Human Resource Services team with colleagues and support available at the other WSU campuses.

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position.

This position is located on the WSU Tri-Cities campus in Richland, Washington.

Monthly Salary:

HR Consultant 1: $4,869.40 - $6,400.00 | Commensurate with education and experience

HR Consultant 2: $5,337.48 - $7,110.00 | Commensurate with education and experience  

Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications:

HRC1:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related area and three (3) years of professional experience in human resource functions in a formal human resource setting. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

HRC2:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related area and four (4) years of professional experience in human resource functions in a formal human resource setting. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Ability to travel to the WSU Pullman campus and university locations throughout the state of Washington is required (approximately 1-3 times per year) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in any of the following areas: recruitment, classification, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, training and development, Reasonable Accommodation, Fair Labor Standards Act

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations and investigation findings and conclusions.

  • Interpreting or applying labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and contracts.

  • Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association.

  • Human Resource experience in a higher education setting.
