Description of Work Unit
The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) is a major locus for biomedical education including undergraduate, graduate, veterinary and post-doctoral training and for translational biomedical research at Colorado State University. BMS houses more than 30 research laboratories. Faculty members’ interests run the gamut from human and animal anatomy and neuroanatomy, reproductive biology and endocrinology to molecular neuroscience and cardiovascular physiology. Housed at CSU Fort Collins campus, CU School of Medicine is offering a full medical curriculum. BMS personnel contribute to the teaching mission and general activities supporting the medical students.
Position Summary
The Human Anatomy Teaching Lab Coordinator & Instructional Support assists faculty within BMS, and including at the CSU branch of the CU-SOM, with coordinating human anatomy and neuroanatomy teaching laboratories and contribute to laboratory presentations, instruction and instructional support. This position assists with instructional goals and processes by setting up, maintaining, and securing the laboratory spaces for Human Gross Anatomy, Medical Gross Anatomy, and Human Neuroanatomy courses. This position handles procurement, management and return of all anatomical specimens and acts as a liaison between the department and the State Anatomical Board. Other duties include coordinating web-based delivery of courses and supporting online teaching platforms, maintenance of Virtual Reality tools, and maintenance of departmental electronic teaching tools.
Required Job Qualifications
* Masters’ degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or related field.
* 1 year of professional experience working in the field of Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Anatomy, or related field.
* Experience working independently with disciplined work ethic.
* Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and other commonly used computer systems.
* Ability to synthesize and organize large amounts of information in a cogent, methodical way.
* Working knowledge of human anatomy, human cadavers, and embalmed specimens.
Preferred Job Qualifications
* 3 years’ experience working in an anatomy teaching laboratory
* Extensive experience dissecting human cadavers and maintaining embalmed specimens.
* Understanding of teaching and teaching needs, preferably in a laboratory setting demonstrated either through teaching or supporting teaching as a coordinator or teaching assistant.
* Experience interacting with a wide variety of faculty, staff and students.
* Experience with web-based instructional delivery systems.

* Assist with overseeing the setup, operation and security of the laboratories for Human Gross Anatomy and Human Neuroanatomy courses.
* Coordinate all teaching assistants for these courses.
* Receive, preserve and return all human anatomical specimens.
* Act as a liaison between the Department and the State Anatomical Board.

* Contribute to the instruction of Human Gross Anatomy and Human Neuroanatomy courses.
* Coordinate web-based delivery for these classes.
* Lead recitations, open laboratories, special review sections.
* Set up and assist with proctoring laboratory exams.
* Participate in each laboratory section to provide consistency between all sections.
* Advise selected graduate and undergraduate students in the Biomedical Sciences MS Plan B program and undergraduate major as requested.
* Provide instruction in labs, as needed.

* Supervise and upgrade necessary software and computers in laboratories.
* Maintain inventory of supplies and order as necessary
* Maintain Immersive Reality Teaching Lab, including IT liaison, coordination with VR development team, and assisting with yearly setup of mobile VR stations
* Act as emergency point-of-contact for Anatomy Teaching Lab spaces, and coordinate communications between building proctor and Anatomy Faculty.
