HR Unit Services Assistant


Position Summary

Processes employment transactions and postings in the HR/Payroll and Applicant Tracking Systems for Temporary, On-Call and Student Employee populations (TOCS) and consults with units on contract provisions, policies and laws relevant to TOCS employment at MSU.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Processing employment transactions in the HR/Payroll System and Applicant Tracking System.
  • Delivering training and helping departments understand policy, contractual and legal requirements concerning TOCS employment.
  • Reviewing Criminal Background Check (CBC) results and I-9s.
  • Researching and reviewing employee records and collectively working with other teams to resolve issues.
  • Processing timely reports that affect the records of students and temporary/on-call employees.
  • Providing back up support to personnel records functions.
  • Serving as a liaison with the Payroll Office and Enterprise Business systems regarding pay issues for student employees and temporary/on-call employees.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for the HR Payroll system on related processes and policy changes for student and temporary/on-call employees.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or a related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in human resources functions or an area related to departmental operations or employment; human resources experience related to human resources policies and procedures, record maintenance and Web applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desired Qualifications

Human Resources experience strongly desired. Bachelor's degree or some college coursework including courses related to Human Resources; experience using EBS, SAP, Page-Up; Hire Right and Equifax; experience and knowledge of payroll deadlines and working with union contracts; ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced/high volume, deadline driven environment; Excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain professionalism with all types of customer interactions; contractual interpretation experience with 1585, CT, AP and APSA in relation to student and temporary/on-call employment policies; experience with employment data clean-up as it pertains to each bargaining group and allowable transactions.
