Job Summary

HR Intern I

To provide routine assistance in support of process and operations to all functions in Human Resources and maintaining human resources and payroll related documents. Responsible for assisting in the administration of various functions by providing customer service and setting and maintaining personnel files.

HR Intern II

To provide skills and knowledge for the performance of responsible specialized duties in the administration of Human Resources functions. Responsible for assisting in the administration of various functions involving application and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

HR Intern I

  • Provides routine support services within assigned area of Human Resources such as recruitment, benefits, training, salary administration and employee records, and/or general assistance.
  • Greets visitors, answers phones, takes messages, routes calls and follow-up, responds to inquiries and/or refers as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of employee records, including status updates, terminations, and new hires.
  • Performs reviews and verification of data on employee information system, files, and/or forms.
  • May specialize in the area of salary administration, which includes evaluating and processing a variety of payroll documents, changes, terminations and reports.
  • Assists in the collection of employee information for reports and statistical research.
  • Answers employee questions and troubleshoots issues with respect to assigned area.
  • May be assigned to special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

HR Intern II

  • Provides administrative support services within assigned area of Human Resources such as recruitment, benefits, training, salary administration and employee records, and/or general assistance.
  • Coordinates the maintenance, recording, preparation and reporting of employee data.
  • Performs reviews and verification in support of personnel and payroll actions and ensures compliance with established procedures.
  • May specialize in the area of salary administration, which includes evaluating and processing a variety of payroll documents, changes, terminations and reports.
  • Collects employee information for reports and statistical research.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of HR concepts, practices, and procedures to investigate, document, and resolve unique payroll and human resource problems and issues.
  • Anticipates and identifies potential human resource and/or payroll problems to minimize the financial and operational impact.
  • Communicates and informs departments upon personnel policies and/or changes.
  • May prepare training materials and conduct training on Human Resource functions and processes.
  • May be assigned to special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

HR Intern I

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or associate degree preferred.
  • Six (6) months of relevant work experience in an office setting.

HR Intern II

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in an office setting, including in a human resources function or work experience in an office setting/ human resources function with an associate degree or 60 college credit hours.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

HR Intern I

  • Technical or associate degree.

HR Intern II

  • Technical or associate degree.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
