Job Description

The HR Business Partner guides HSC management and employees on matters relating to policy, compliance with employment laws, Human Resources strategy, performance management, positive discipline and terms and conditions of employment. Human Resources Business Partner

Duties:

  • Conducts initial intake assessment of all new employee relations cases.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor, strategic partner, and subject matter expert at the University in the areas of employee relations, performance management, positive discipline issues, and workplace disputes.
  • Provides faculty and staff consultation and information to employees regarding conflict resolution and the Staff Dispute Resolution process.     
  • Provides confidential support to management and staff, working closely with Legal Counsel and key stakeholders in determining the appropriate course of action and potential risk.
  • Maintains and tracks employee relations activities in case management system for each assigned and reported employee relations issue.
  • Performs HR outreach visits to departments for on-site problem solving.
  • Provides internal customer service to HR staff for policy guidance and overlapping situations.
  • Reviews changes of employment status for employees to ensure compliance.
  • Leads the development and implementation of specific training programs for employees, managers, and supervisors in partnership and with support from Learning and Organizational Development staff.
  • Monitors and evaluates programs to ensure effectiveness.
  • Works closely with the Institutional Equity Office and Title IX officers as directed regarding complaints involving discrimination/harassment.
  • Assists with revisions to policies, procedures, and business processes.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for Employee Relations in the absence of the Assistant Director.
  • Leads or supports strategic projects. 
  • Serves as a key member of HR organizational task forces and internal committees.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree

  • 12 months of professional HR experience in Employee Relations or related field

Equivalency/Substitution: 48 months of related experience in lieu of Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months experience.

  • Customer service skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion principles and practices, as well as problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to adapt workload to unexpected events and demands
  • Knowledge of applicable local, State and Federal laws and regulations, especially related to employment and employee relations
  • Skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing and investigating
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively manage/communicate sensitive and/or confidential information and engage adeptly with employees at all position levels across the University
  • Absolute professionalism, tact, discretion and confidentiality
  • Advanced composition and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: Sit for prolonged periods.  Use of a computer and telephone. Communicate effectively and listen.  Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Environmental: Standard Office Environment.  Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Requires contact with employees, other departments, and University officials.
