Job Summary
  • Eastern Washington University seeks candidates for a Human Resources Associate – Compensation Analyst. Due to growth, this is a new position in our Human Resources Office. This person will report directly to the Sr. Director-Human Resources. This position will be responsible for coordinating the classification and compensation system at Eastern Washington University and for providing backup to our other Human Resources Associates.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience Compensation Analyst and Human Resource experience beyond entry-level work including in the following functional (or related) areas:
    • Organizational structure and restructure
    • Recruitment
    • Employee relations, including performance management, training and coaching
    • Human Resources Information Systems, such as PeopleAdmin and/or Ellucian Banner
    • Contract, rule and policy advising
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, database management and report generation
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, or our students, staff, faculty and the public.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Higher Education setting.

    ● Conduct compensation analysis including:
    o Assist with preparation and maintenance of job classifications and salary scales in line with applicable laws, regulations and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
    Ensure Banner system is up to date.
    o Assess jobs and their respective duties to determine scope of duties and responsibilities, employee classification, and appropriate exemption and salary range.
    o Benchmark jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.
    o Prepare and present summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information.
    o Gather data from market-based compensation surveys; use spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.
    o Evaluate and implement job analysis instruments and materials.
    o Collaborate with Labor Relations and Budget to conduct data and cost analyses to be used in employee negotiations and collective bargaining agreements.
    o Assist with review of pay equity claims.
    o Utilize recruitment data to evaluate classified positions changes to be recommended to State HR.
    o Monitor State HR compensation changes and implement changes for EWU utilized positions.
    o Review proposed salary for personnel actions and identify concerns with equity.
    o Process cost of living salary adjustments.
    o Process monthly classified increment increases.
    o Monitor classified employees for move to Step M.
    ● Provide backup assistance to other HR Associates during peak workload, periods of leave, and/or as otherwise needed:
    o Assist employees (at all levels of the university), managers and departments by providing advice and counsel related to HR functional areas and services; by assisting in problem and conflict resolution, performance development, personnel actions such as layoff and separation; and interpreting and applying the collective bargaining agreements, university policies and procedures, and state and federal laws.
    o Responsible for the applicable position requisition, recruitment, and hiring processes for assigned area;
    o Review position requisitions submitted by departments for quality, accuracy and alignment with university standards; recommend appropriate
    advertising media and timelines utilizing PeopleAdmin and Job Elephant, or other university systems and processes related to hiring; o Develop recruitment information, advertisements and supplemental marketing materials as needed;
    o Maintain updated information and statuses in PeopleAdmin related to positions and applicants;
    o Provide search committee training; monitor recruitments and exercise oversight of applicant evaluation process;
    o Screen applications as assigned;
    o Facilitate approval of interviews and hires; generate applicant demographic reports;
    o Develop offer letters and contracts;
    o Maintain recruitment files, applicant records and forms in adherence to university and public records requirements.
    o Conduct sexual misconduct reference checks as assigned.
    o Review proposed position descriptions submitted by departments;
    o Determine appropriate employment status, overtime eligibility and work with supervisor to identify essential function qualifications/standards and performance expectations.
    o Conduct job audits which includes reviewing completed position questionnaires, interviewing employees and supervisors, making recommendations and discussing with appropriate President/Provost/Vice President; preparing the notices for review and signature; prepare information to support position in grievance and testify as needed; maintain records and reports pertaining to audits; maintain tracking reports.
    o Assist departments in the development of exempt position analysis; review the evaluation for internal alignment; make recommendations for appropriate salary range to Senior Director of Human Resources.
    ● Perform additional professional level Human Resources work, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
    o Provide supervisor and employee training and coaching; develop training
    o Serve as the functional administrator of EWU’s HRIS (PeopleAdmin)
