East Stroudsburg University is hiring an HR Assistant! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the HR Assistant, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable serving as the first point of contact for employees seeking assistance on human resource related matters. You will be an active member of the HR team and will work closely with the Department to provide general support functions. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your interpersonal skills and professional work experience while maintaining a high sense of confidentiality. To be successful in this role, you must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to pivot on tasks. 


Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true HR Assistant.  When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming. This is a confidential position within the AFSCME bargaining unit. 


What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees seeking assistance on human resource-related matters through email, calls, and walk-ins.
  • Provide first line IT support for the applicant tracking system (password resets, unlocking accounts, etc).
  • Coordinate logistics for HR hosted events such as Enrichment Days and Employee Recognition.
  • Ensure tuition waivers are processed timely and accurately.
  • Assist the Employment Coordinator with the student recruitment and appointment letters.
  • Assist the HR Business Partners with generating and disseminating HR reports as well as supporting
    the Employment Coordinator with processing background checks as needed.
  • Process all invoices & procurement for department.
  • Precisely schedule events/meetings for department.
  • Assist in the processing of payroll as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • 2 years of clerical or para-professional work. An Associate’s degree may be substituted for two years
    of required 
    experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and
    diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to pivot on projects while providing excellent customer service.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office: Word (merge, track changes), Excel (graphs, formulas),
    Access (data extraction and reporting), and Teams.
  • Able to absorb and apply information quickly.
  • Able to read, write and comprehend English; excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Open to feedback, coaching, professional development in HR.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment a plus.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
