Position Summary
Under limited supervision, supports researchers and students to enhance complex research project workflows by providing cost-effective data, applications, and other information systems solutions within a high-performance computing environment. Responsible for support throughout all phases of complex computing support, including installations, upgrades, software, hardware, operating systems, and operating system configuration issues. Develops and implements training for researchers and students in the areas of simple scripting, software applications, data management, and security compliance.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides support to scientific researchers and students on complex data workflows, debugging application performance and improving research workflows.
  • Supports researchers and students on existing complex University operating systems, software installation/maintenance and hardware to ensure research project success.
  • Collaborates with engineers and developers to identify complex system data, hardware or software components.
  • Performs complex security analyses of computing systems to ensure data protection.
  • Develops multiple complex project plans to provide timely and accurate technical support to research end-users.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

Ability to work on call; ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations.

  • Experience working within higher education.
  • Ability to work well with people with a variety of skill levels.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate services and training for the user community on data science and information systems.
  • Must have exceptionally strong communication skills and work well with other facilitators, scientists and researchers.
  • Knowledge of data workflows and informatics and high-performance compute. Demonstrated commitment to professional development by striving to continue learning and evolve skillsets.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in either computer science or a science related field plus four years experience in a high-performance computing environment, or equivalent combination of experience/education.
  • Experience working with at least one statistical or computational environment (R, SPSS, Stata, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with the deployment of infrastructure systems (high performance computing, storage, network, databases, and virtualized systems).
  • Basic knowledge of software development principles.

Salary Range
$63,900.00 - $109,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
