Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Housekeeping Unit is a part of the Physical Plant Department, Business Affairs Division of the University. This unit provides conventional cleaning care to all academic buildings, administration offices, labs and University Union and University Center. Work involves performance on a continuing basis of variety of tasks in accordance with Housekeeping procedures. Performs some maintenance on housekeeping equipment.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Housekeeper is accountable for the care and cleanliness of offices, classrooms, and multi-purpose facilities; sweeps, mops, vacuums floor surfaces, cleans windows, walls, woodwork, and light fixtures. This position also maintains bathrooms in a sanitary state; empties trash/recycling receptacles as needed, replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary. The Housekeeper maintains the Housekeeper’s cart and building’s closets in a well-organized manner with appropriate levels of cleaning products. This position moves furniture upon assignment, and perform related duties as required. Any needed repairs of leaking faucets, toilets, broken windowpanes, etc., must be reported to their immediate supervisor.
The Housekeeper understands and meets the specific cleaning needs of each building. Additional capabilities include excellent customer service skills to listen and respond to customers’ needs and the ability to maintain good employee relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
Provides backup support for special projects and other activities, as needed, with specific instructions given as required for the execution of more complex tasks.
Available Shifts-
Day Shift: M-F 6AM – 3 PM
Night Shift: M-Th 6PM – 2:30 AM | F 3:30PM-12AM
Evening Shift: 3PM – 12 AM
*Shift will be discussed at time of interview
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some knowledge of cleaning procedures. Two years of previous commercial/industrial cleaning experience.
Required Certifications or licensure
NC Driver’s License preferred but not required.
