The UWMC Montlake Department of Security and Public Safety has an outstanding opportunity to hire a full time HOSPITAL SECURITY MANAGER (MANAGER OF PROGRAM OPERATIONS).

Position Purpose:

Oversees and manages the day-to-day operation of the Medical Center Department of Public Safety security division, ensuring a secure, orderly and safe environment.  Use superior customer service skills in dealing with people.  Able to assess situations, anticipate challenges and resolve conflicts using quick, accurate judgments.  Protect life and property of all persons on UWMC premises; patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism.  Secures, unlocks and protects hospital buildings.  Respond to security needs of hospital staff.

Position Dimensions and Impact to the University:

Exercises substantial responsibility for directing and controlling a program, supervises staff, and regularly performs professional level administration and management of a non-routine nature which requires independent judgment and decision making. Utilizes specialized knowledge of the specific program and has delegated decision making authority to allocate resources and establish policies, methods, procedures, and work rules for the program. Ensures program conforms to institutional and department policies and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

25% Provide management, direction and supervision to Hospital Security Sergeants and Hospital Security Officers. Develops and monitors performance standards for assigned staff. Trains, assesses and develops skills, and manages performance. Maintains and updates job descriptions. Monitors compliance with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, including safety procedures, and other requirements.
10% Implements, maintains, monitors and manages the Security Management Plan
10% Coordinate work of functional line division unit; respond to calls backing subordinates when necessary/appropriate.
15% Plan, schedule and assign shifts/sections; manage Kronos approvals.
5% Review and approval of reports.
10% Officer training and development.
5% HR issues; employee evaluations, hiring, promotions, discipline, termination of security staff.
5% Ensure compliance with local/state/federal laws, university regulations.
5% Assist director with budget, TJC/DOH inspections, drills/exercises, committee meetings, briefings, safety audits, security management plan & evaluation, overall department management.
5% Recommend procedures/methods for improved department efficiency.
5% Develop security programs, improvement plans, procedure/policy recommendations.
Lead Responsibilities:

Surveillance camera management including preventive maintenance, programming categories, assigning permissions, trouble-shooting failures, and designing systems.
Report Exec statistics management (EOCC, WPVP/PSC, IAPC, Clery, ODB).
Guardcard employee ID and Vuetura visitor ID systems management.
Infant abduction prevention system oversight.
CAAMS (Computer Automated Access Management System) troubleshooting.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees and manages the day-to-day operation of the Medical Center Department of Public Safety security division at the Montlake campus; fills in at the Northwest campus as needed.  Acts as adjutant for Director in their absence. Assist the Director in ensuring compliance with security standards set by JCAHO, OSHA, federal, state, county and municipal laws and ordinances.  Assist the Director in maintaining contact and liaison with federal, state, King County, UWPD and Seattle Police departments, the Seattle Fire Department, civil defense and local emergency planning committees as well as Public Safety/Security directors of other hospitals and facilities. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Public Safety Administration, Security Management, Criminal Justice, Hospital Administration, Business, or a related field from an accredited university OR equivalent combination of education and wide range security management experience.

4-5 years' relevant work experience.

•     Prefer five years of experience in healthcare security management.
•     Current Washington State driver's license or able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
•     Able to communicate to a diverse workforce and the public.
•     Ability to write clear and concise reports.
•     Excellent customer service skills.
•     Ability to plan and coordinate department security, safety and parking functions with other departments.
•     Knowledgeable of rules and laws governing hospitals as well as JCAHO, CMS, DOH regulations and standards.

Desired Qualifications:

Two years of law enforcement experience or training in a supervisory capacity equivalent to Campus Security Sergeant; possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license; no previous felony convictions.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
The successful candidate will possess superior customer service skills, offering support and understanding in dealing with patients, staff, faculty and visitors to the medical center.  Able to tactfully confront individuals and gain their trust for authority, de-escalating anger to bring about satisfactory solutions.  Ability to connect with people, regardless of socioeconomic status or ethnicity.  Capacity to assess situations, anticipate challenges and resolve conflicts using quick, accurate judgments.  Possess knowledge and ability to explain circumstances with sensitivity and discretion, mitigating stressful and potentially violent situations.  Investigate incidents and crimes with the aptitude to complete clear, concise and accurate incident reports and other documentation.  Perform routine and emergency locking of facility, possibly assisting in crowd control.  Patrol and inspect interior and exterior of facility, on foot or in a vehicle. Respond promptly and safely to calls for assistance and “code” calls throughout UWMC.  Assume control of emergency situations in cooperation with medical professionals, fire/police agencies and/or senior administration.  Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable radios, computers, closed-circuit and access control systems.  Effectively interview people, gather evidence and prepare reports documenting investigatory steps and results.  Serve as a member of the Fire Control Team and respond to alarms and other emergent situations.  Investigate and deter crime and related incidents; inspect buildings for prowlers, vagrants, fire and safety hazards.  Control and place restraints on patients at the direction of medical staff.  Evict, hold or detain persons when directed to do so by the appropriate law enforcement agency, clinical or administrative authority.  Provide escorts to patients, visitors or staff 24 hours a day.  Facilitate the securing of weapons in a safe location. Provide funds escorts when requested. Possess superior attention to detail and observation skills.  Perform other related duties as assigned.
