The OSU Health System is committed to providing quality, cost-effective patient care service in an environment sensitive to all persons who are cared for, work in or are visiting the hospitals and related areas. The individual in this position will serve as part of the administrative team in support of the mission, vision and values as established by the medical center. This person will assure that all safety, Environment of Care and emergency preparedness policies and operations for the health system operations are planned, and developed in accordance with the vision of the organization and in compliance with accreditation bodies.

Under the direction of the Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness, this person serves as the Safety Manager for the OSU Health System.  This position designs, aids in implementation, and evaluates accreditation, emergency preparedness, environment of care and safety functions.  Provides reports and recommendations to the Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness pertaining to safety, compliance, emergency preparedness, and environment of care.  Assists with conceptualizing, planning, and implementing programs and activities related to the safety of patients, visitors, staff, and property.  Monitors Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, The Joint Commission, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the National Fire Protection Association and other governmental and health care publications and websites for pertinent information applicable to the accreditation, compliance, emergency preparedness, and regulatory programs.  Has knowledge of Health System policies, rules and regulations and experience in budget management required.  Serve as liaison with University and governmental officials, Board members, high level officials from outside hospitals and agencies, Health System executives and department head staff, departmental chairpersons, faculty, physicians, patients and the general public.   

Experience :

Bachelor's Degree in a related field, preferably hospital administration, business administration, safety or similar field and professional certification/registration or equivalent education and experience.  Demonstrated experience in project management or planning, implementing, and coordinating complex events.  Knowledge with Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  Familiarity with the operations and administration of a hospital or healthcare organization and relevant rules and regulations.  Experience with design of complex emergency exercises.  Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
