OU Office of Admissions & Recruitment (OAR) works to bring in the next generation of Sooners. Our team operates from Norman as well as across the state, nation and world. We provide support to incoming domestic and international freshman and transfer students as they navigate the college application and decision process. Additionally, we partner with parents, counselors, and communities in providing resources to students interested in higher education. Our goal is to build a vibrant, inclusive community on campus by recruiting students with diverse backgrounds, educational experiences, and involvement.

We're currently looking for a new team member in our Norman office to serve as a Holistic Admissions Counselor.

Responsibilities include:

• Critically reads and holistically evaluates a vast number of our incoming freshmen applications. 
• Applies policies and procedures to process applications for admission to the University for undergraduate students including the evaluation of academic and supporting credentials.
• Interprets admission policies and procedures and responds to questions regarding admission, transfer and prior learning assessment, and residency determinations, for prospective students, parents, high school and college counselors, and OU faculty and staff.
• In collaboration of greater Holistic Team, trains new employees on the holistic admission process. This includes a general overview and more detailed training for those who will also be processing files, remaining the primary point of contact until the new employee has a proficient understanding of procedure.
• Job includes working with the pressure of deadlines, heavy workload, and public contact both in person, by phone, virtually, and via email.
• Utilize admissions CRM to mine data and strategically assist recruitment team’s efforts.
• Manage a select pool of applications for admission review, and serve as specific representative to small number of high schools, including conducting admissions presentations, etc.
• Audits and updates our holistic review policy and procedures manual in collaboration with greater Holistic Team.
• Collaborate with Admissions & Recruitment senior leadership to enhance the processing of prospective incoming freshmen.
• Coordinate with external partners on projects related to freshman admissions at The University of Oklahoma.
• Audits final high school transcripts, updating curricular requirements and posting updated test scores to ensure all applicable credits are awarded to the student.
• Participate in professional development conferences and activities.
• Serves on select Event Committees and all mandatory recruitment events.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 


 

Job Requirements

--- 

Required Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 0-24 months recruitment experience

Skills:

  • Highly organized and has a keen sense of details when it comes to projects and deadlines
  • Strong initiative to solve problems quickly
  • Keen sense of customer service and serving others
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff

Certifications:


  • A valid driver's license is required to get to various schools and events

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time doing work on a computer and via the telephone. Must be able to pull, push, lift, engage in repetitive motions, speak, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others; see, including color, depth perception and clarity; and hear, including receiving detailed information orally.

Department Preferences:

  • Masters preferred
  • Previous experience working in Admissions and Recruitment is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of OU
  • Familiarity with the nature and aims of a selective flagship public institution
  • Preference given to someone who has strong ability in a Customer Relationship Management(CRM) system
