Brookhaven Lab's Computational Science Initiative(CSI) excels at integrating computer science, applied mathematics, and computational science with broad domain expertise to tackle problems and advance knowledge impacting scientific discovery. CSI has long focused on timely analysis and interpretation of high-volume, high-velocity heterogeneous data, providing solutions for the national and international scientific community. These efforts now are being augmented by CSI's growing high-performance computing capabilities.

The Center for Data-Driven Discovery (C3D) within the CSI at BNL leads the development of high-performance and distributed middleware for advanced and data-driven workflows. The C3D brings expertise in high-performance and distributed computing with software engineering to advance computational and data-driven science and discovery.

Position Description

The position involves developing and evolving high-performance distributed computing middleware to enable a new class of applications under development as part of the convergence of AI and HPC technologies. The position will support initiatives Office of Science-wide projects like the IRI, as well as internal project developments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of related experience, or Master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience, or Doctorate and +2 years of related experience post-PhD.
  • Unix, Python, C/C++
  • Advanced software engineering
  • Independent research and analysis
  • Excellent record of accomplishments and evaluations; has authored publications.
  • Has presented scientific findings at seminars and conferences.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering and/or related areas
  • Large, complex projects
  • Goal oriented and experience with complex projects
  • Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $101200 - $168000 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
