Job Summary

The Hemophilia Assistant provides administrative and clerical support for the Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center staff.  The Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center provides care for over 300 patients with bleeding disorders.  In addition, the Center conducts clinical research as well as administers a program which supplies clotting factor medication to patients enrolled in the Center.  The Adult Hemophilia Program also participates in a nationwide data collection study, sponsored by ATHN (The American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network) and the Hemophilia Assistant provides data entry support for this study.  The Hemophilia Assistant will provide support for all the hemophilia clinical care services and program staff.

Department Description

The Division of Hematology/Oncology is one of the largest Divisions in the Department of Medicine (DOM). Currently, the Division has 80 + Full-time faculty, 18 part-time and/or volunteer faculty, 26 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and non-ACGME fellows, 13 post-doctoral fellows, 32 Non faculty appointments and 57 administrative and research staff. The Division’s primary research, clinical and teaching functions are primarily split between the Parnassus, Mission Bay and Mount Zion campuses, although the faculty, fellows, and staff have appointments and clinical, research, and educational activities at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).


Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation and four years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Background in medical setting, prior experience interfacing with patients and third party payers
  • Purchasing experience
  • Experience supporting multiple professionals
  • Scheduling experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Administrative and office experience. Needs to be organized, detail oriented, able to keep excellent records, and able to effectively juggle competing priorities
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team; excellent demonstrated record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to write letters to patients and providers
  • Excellent computer skills, excellent Excel skills.  Demonstrated proficiency in medical terminology.  
  • Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience assisting with research projects
  • BA degree
