Position Objective

This HVAC Instructor will teach classes focused on the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration program. This faculty position is responsible for planning, organizing, and operating the program designed to prepare students for a career as service technicians, building maintenance technicians, equipment assemblers, and installers. He/she will work with other program faculty and college administration to perform the position's functions described below.

The duties of this position are performed in person on our Lakewood campus. 
This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington.
 


Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing various teaching techniques to prepare students for entry-level employment in the HVAC/R industry.
Tasks include:

  • Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes. 
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies. 
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
  • Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy, and continuous program equipment and laboratory space evaluation. 
  • Utilize an online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning. 
  • Maintain accurate student progress records, update them promptly, and assess and provide feedback on student learning.
  • Submit student grades on time.
  • Provide career guidance and job placement assistance
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duty: Perform administrative tasks for the HVAC/R program and the college.
Tasks include:
  • Document and maintain accurate records of student competency, performance, and attendance per the program and college policies
  • Participate in program promotion events, information sessions, and other marketing activities.
  • Work with the advisory committee, program faculty, and college administration to develop strategies for continuous program and course improvement.
  • Attend college In-Service Day activities, department, division, meetings, and college-related events as required.
  • Serve as an active participant on college committees. Provide and maintain program information and communication with the college community. 


Minimum Qualifications

• Three years employment in HVAC/R, troubleshooting and repairing equipment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Refrigeration Technician.
  • Washington State certified 06AHVAC/R Specialty Electrician.
  • Associate degree in HVAC/R or related field.
  • Two years of teaching experience in community or technical colleges.
