The University of Houston Libraries seeks a collaborative and creative candidate for the position of Health Sciences Librarian. This position is part of the Health Sciences Libraries department, which provides specialized services in the areas of medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, social work, and other health professional programs, and manages the Health Sciences Library and the Medical Library, both located at the main campus biomedical district. The person in this position will partner primarily with nursing and social work and be located at the Health Sciences Library within the Health 2 building. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with staff and librarians throughout the Libraries to ensure service delivery is in alignment with established programmatic approaches. This includes working with the Teaching & Learning department in the development of instruction sessions and online instructional materials, with the Research Services department to enhance research support for faculty, researchers, and students, and with the Collections Strategies & Services department to assess and enhance collections relevant to the health sciences. This position reports to the Head of Health Sciences Libraries.

The Health Sciences Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Libraries’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians, and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.
Salary: $63,500 to $65,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.

Qualifications
:
Required
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with stakeholders in a complex changing environment
- Professional experience in a health sciences library, academic library, or relevant healthcare setting; or demonstrated awareness of patron needs in an academic health sciences library
- Demonstrated interest or experience in teaching; or a strong commitment to student success and student learning
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
Preferred
- Experience searching and teaching relevant medical databases such as PubMed and CINAHL
- Knowledge of, or experience with, evidence-based practice, research data management, and tools for demonstrating research impact
- Knowledge of relevant research and publishing processes
