Job Description

Serves as the librarian on the ISU-Meridian campus, whose programs are heavily invested in health sciences. Serves as a health sciences librarian and library bibliographer for designated health sciences departments and their affiliated programs. Coordinates with library colleagues at ISU main campus on the provision of library services. Adaptable to varying patron needs and expectations. 

Key Responsibilities

Manages the ISU-Meridian library facility, including hiring and training student employees, managing the physical collection, and providing outreach to ISU-Meridian students and faculty, including through social media and other campus communication channels. Collaborates with ISU-Meridian leadership on special projects and events.

In cooperation with relevant colleagues participates in professional activities such as applying for grants, developing outreach efforts, maintaining relationships with the ISU Kasiska Division of Health Sciences, liaising with the National Library of Medicine, maintaining IHSL LibGuides, developing appropriate working relationships with area librarians, etc.

Teaches in-person and online individual, classroom and group instruction in evidence based practice, library services and procedures, search strategies, and the use of information resources. Primary emphasis areas are in health sciences subjects; secondary emphasis areas include all other subjects.

Teaches an online section of the undergraduate LLIB1115 Information Literacy three credit course.

Provides reference service in-person and via phone, chat, and email. Assists faculty, students, staff and other users on a one-on-one basis by answering specific information requests, offering research assistance, and guiding users in the effective use of information resources provided by the Library.

Serves as a bibliographer to designated health science academic departments. Works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members. Performs collection assessments, as needed, for accreditation studies.

May serve on the library’s Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee and liaise with other university departments to promote awareness and adoption of Open Educational Resources. May serve as chair for the library’s OER committee. May also serve on the university level committee for OAER (Open and Affordable Educational Resources).

Participates in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attends professional meetings.

Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Dean or the Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning Services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach
  • Ability to work independently and in concert with others in a strongly collegial and participative environment 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in life or health sciences or experience working in a health sciences library
  • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice
  • Collection development experience
  • Ability and interest in learning new technologies
  • Knowledge of learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard, or Canvas
  • Experience with Springshare (LibGuides)
  • Experience working with open affordable educational resource (OAER) programs or interest in OAER
  • Knowledge of and experience with social media technologies

Additional Information

Salary will be a minimum of $61,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
