As part of Campus and Student Life at the University of Chicago, UChicago Student Wellness integrates multiple services related to care of the students’ health and well-being. Located in a beautiful new Student Wellness Center, which opened in 2020, UChicago Student Wellness provides primary care, counseling, psychiatry, and health promotion services. Our mission is to provide students with comprehensive health, counseling, and wellness services to support their academic, personal, and professional success, and our vision is to redefine the field by providing exceptional, integrated wellness services that enable students to thrive. Job Summary
 

The Health Promotion Coordinator will assist the Health Promotion team in furthering its mission by implementing evidence-based initiatives to support the overall health and well-being of students; leading individual and group programs; evaluating the effectiveness of Student Wellness initiatives and reporting the results; developing effective collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to achieve a comprehensive response toward campus well-being; manage programs, initiatives and large-scale events implemented by the department; and managing online event calendar and health education content.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting systems-level campus wellbeing, a dedication to continuously deepening their own cultural awareness, and commitment to collaborating with students, staff and faculty to support this work.

Responsibilities

• Assists with planning, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services.
• Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services based on campus needs and priorities.
• Facilitates large and small group programs (Mindfulness Meditation, Better Together, Mental Health First Aid, etc.).
• Assists with campus-wide initiatives, large-scale events and campaigns.
• Performs both qualitative and quantitative data analysis and uses data to inform work of the department.
• Sets and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria.
• Analyzes program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.
• Maintains a collaborative relationship with appropriate departments and offices across campus.
• Provides health-based education in the areas of nutrition, lifestyles and genetics. Develops curriculum, policies, workshops, and promotional materials with minimal guidance and direction.
• Promotes individual and community health by maintaining working relationships with those in public health care and acting as a resource for individuals with health needs.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Registered Dietitian (RD) Certification - State of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, health promotion, health policy, health education, social work or related field.
• Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health education, or related field.

Experience:

• Experience with cultural humility and social justice practices.
• Involvement in health promotion or related field.
• Background working in higher education/higher education institution.
• Conducting literature reviews, needs assessments, and program evaluations; experience interpreting findings and developing plans to programmatically and strategically respond to the findings.
• Working on coalitions or collaborating with individuals and organizations.
• Designing, implementing, and facilitating programming.

Certifications:

• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

• Demonstrating knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research skills (e.g., research design, survey development, environmental assessment, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation, etc.).
• Using social media and marketing platforms.
• Microsoft Office.
• SPSS software or similar.
• Design software such as Canva or similar programs.

Preferred Competencies

• Incorporate health promotion in the context of higher education.
• Design and implement health promotion programs on a variety of key health issues based on needs assessment results.
• Written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously, managing time efficiently, and prioritizing tasks.
• Work with limited resources and flexibility with consistent change.

Working Conditions

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and adjust work assignments according to programmatic and divisional needs.
• Use computers extensively for up to 2 hours at a time.
• Use standard computer and office equipment.
