Job Summary

The Health Equity Advancement Lab (HEAL) Study Interviewer will be responsible for conducting interviews with women who inject drugs (WWID) participating in a large HIV prevention study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The purpose of this research is to understand if and how addressing traumatic violent experiences and substance use helps women reduce HIV-related risk behaviors over time. The Study Interviewer will work closely with the study Principal Investigator, study coordinators, research assistants, and the PrEP Clinic staff. This project is well-suited for individuals seeking experience in public health research, and we welcome applicants who have lived experience.

This position requires some weekend and/or evening shifts. Applicants should have transportation to/from Drexel University and to Prevention Point Philadelphia in Kensington, where the position is based.

All interviews will take place on-location Prevention Point Philadelphia, a harm reduction center located in Kensington, Philadelphia.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct outreach to help recruit and retain new participants.
  • Explain study procedures to participants, obtaining informed consent, administering quantitative assessments and qualitative interviews.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for submission to an external laboratory.
  • Perform laboratory tests on premises (including urine drug screens and the collection of scalp hair for adherence testing)
  • Triage and directly link participants to harm reduction and medical services (including, but not limited to: case management, drug and alcohol treatment assessments, or wound care at Prevention Point Philadelphia)
  • Promote and maintain participant confidentiality as required by university and federal policy.
  • Document study visits in REDcap, a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED or Equivalent
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience
  • Strong commitment to social justice, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care
  • Knowledgeable about HIV, HIV testing, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically in conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Collaborative approach to work and ability to work in a multi-person, interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying educational, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, nursing, other helping profession, or liberal arts
  • At least one-year work experience with communities impacted by HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, substance use, poverty, and/or homelessness
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodology and data collection strategies
  • Experience in research conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics and REDcap software

Additional Information

This position is classified as Part-Time Non-Exempt, grade H. Compensation for this grade ranges from $17.14 to $25.71 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
