Venice Family Clinic is a community health center whose mission is “To provide quality primary health care to people in need.” Venice Family Clinic cares for over 28,000 low-income patients in over 120,000 visits annually who might otherwise go without critically needed health care services. Venice Family Clinic has eleven clinical sites with over 350 staff, 1,700 volunteers, and a budget of $50 million. We provide high quality, comprehensive primary and specialty health care, dental, mental health, substance use treatment and child development services to underserved individuals and families on the Westside of Los Angeles. As part of our affiliation with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Venice Family Clinic is involved in the training of residents and fellows in primary care and many specialties. Venice Family Clinic also trains residents through partnerships with Kaiser Permanente and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The Health Educator works within a multi-disciplinary health care team in the delivery of comprehensive services for patients who need health education in a primary care setting. Acting as the primary contact person for the family, the Health Educator assists the health care team in the development and implementation of a health care plan tailored to the needs of the patient and the patient’s family. The Health Educator will is responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination and implementation of health education program(s) that focus on underserved racial/ethnic groups who are at high risk for illness, disability and death from chronic diseases. Some of the Health Educators responsibilities include: one-on-one education sessions, group education classes, leading a fitness exercise class, Conduct presentations at community-based organizations when needed, assist with food security programming. Must be English/Spanish bilingual.

Job Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or related field OR a Bachelor’s degree in Health or a related field and at least two years of experience providing health education services in a public health or primary health care organization – Strongly Preferred.
  • Working knowledge of health education issues and programs including nutrition, lifestyle and behavioral issues Required
  • Working knowledge of chronic diseases and strategies to improve patient adherence to medical treatment plans – Required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills -Required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, clinic staff, patients and volunteers – Required.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team – Required.
  • Knowledge of the Latino culture and diet – Required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills -Required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people of various educational and socio-economic backgrounds – Required.
  • Ability to interact with staff to promote interdepartmental communication -Required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Access -Required.
  • Ability to travel between clinics and community organizations to conduct health education programs, presentation, services and outreach – Required.
