Job Summary

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks a Health Educator and Prevention Coordinator who will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Integrated Health and Wellness. This position advocates for and leads efforts to develop health practices that promote personal development and student success, as well as evaluates, documents and communicates campus health needs using a public health/health promotion orientation. The Health Educator and Prevention Coordinator engages students, campus leadership and partners in developing a common vision that supports the holistic vision for an integrated model of health and wellness and leverages systems to foster a shared culture of student wellbeing. The selected candidate will use data to develop strategies that expand protective factors in support of mental, physical and relational wellbeing, and reduce personal and community health risk factors while maintaining alignment with institutional values. The Health Educator and Prevention Coordinator nurtures a culture of wellbeing in all aspects of student life, responding to the diverse and changing needs of the student body while demonstrating cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion and to identifying and removing barriers to access.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and modify, as appropriate, theory-based and evidence-informed student health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services. Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop and implement a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students.

  • Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for health promotion programs and services. Rigorously evaluate effectiveness and continuously track progress.

  • Develop, implement, and analyze student health measurement tools to 1) provide baseline and follow-up health data, 2) identify program needs and priorities, 3) evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and 4) track trends in student health status and behavior.

  • Develop and execute strategies to communicate health promotion data and vision campus-wide.

  • Recruit, train, manage, and evaluate paid and/or volunteer student staff, interns, and/or peer educators corps.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Master's degree in Health Education/Promotion, Public Health, College Student Development, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic partnerships.

  • Two years previous work experience in a college/university environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in sexual assault/violence prevention efforts, alcohol and other drug prevention initiatives and other health and wellness issues relevant to a college population.

  • Training and experience as a BASICS provider preferred.

  • Knowledge of current evidence-based health promotion practices and theories.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, including an understanding of health/wellness issues of across cultures and identities with undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated technological competence in Microsoft Office and ability to analyze data and summarize key findings and trends.

  • Presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to identify and leverage community resources and funding opportunities preferred.
