Coordinates communications activities in support of a university program, including, but not limited to, publications, newsletters, annual reports, web site, and informational and solicitation materials.

  • Coordinates various communications projects, to include compiling, editing, and layout of materials.
  • Works with other departments to research, obtain material and organize the content of written communications.
  • Provides content for regular updates of the program web site.
  • May be responsible for producing regularly recurring communications such as annual reports, monthly publications or newsletters.
  • Provides writing and editing services for other communication projects as assigned.
  • Represents the program at conferences and community events.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Position Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of UH Wellness, the Health Communication Specialist is responsible for managing and implementing an upstream comprehensive student health and well-being communications plan. This will include developing social norms marketing initiatives, social media strategies, and improving health literacy in relation to a variety of health and well-being topics related to college students and work closely with the Student Health Center (SHC) Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication.

    Job Duties

    • Brand -
      • Work with the (SHC) Assistant Director of MarComm to oversee the implementation of a brand strategy for UH Wellness as well as assisting other Health and Wellbeing Team (HWB Team) members if needed that balances consistent messaging, as well as promoting specific programs and services while maintaining that brand thread.
      • Ensure alignment with the Health and Wellbeing Team (HWB Team) and the Division of Student Affairs and University Marketing and Communications branding and ensure compliance with standards.
      • Ensure consistency of messaging and non-duplication of communication efforts around campus wellbeing.
    • MarComm Plan-
      • Apply best practices in health communication to design and implement materials that promote individual and community health and wellbeing and positive culture change while implementing the three-level model of the HWB marketing and communications that includes University level messaging, assisting with HWB overarching level messaging, and department/program level messaging.
    • Mediums - 
      • Develop and coordinate the production and dissemination of information for UH Wellness
      • Develop and create engaging ideas for written and relevant material to be presented in a variety of formats (e.g., flyers, reports, web-based materials, forms, email messages, publications)
      • Edit and proof materials as final preparation for publication and distribution
    • Collaboration -
      • Work with vendors and consultants as needed
      • Implement and share in ongoing development of the health and well-being portfolio web and social media presence
      • Provide consultation to and collaborate with campus partners in developing materials that support their programmatic efforts
      • Sit on the HWB Teams MarComm working group and the Divisions MarComm committee.
    • Assessment - 
      • Maintain records and archives, as appropriate
      • Design, manage, and evaluate health communication campaigns; use evidence-based strategies including social marketing; determine appropriate channels for different populations and create effective messages that are tailored to the intended audience(s)
      • Administer marketing assessments and contribute to departmental assessments to evaluate marketing and communications strategies.
      • Monitor and analyze engagement metrics, KPIs, and analytics to track the effectiveness of communication strategies and make data-driven decisions to improve them 
    • Staffing and Resources - 
      • Determine appropriate staffing needs for supporting marketing and communications strategies while providing opportunities for student learning and development.
      • Recruit, select, supervise, and mentor student staff interns and selected peer educators.
      • Monitor budget and expenses, equipment inventory, supplies, promotional items, materials and make recommendation for purchases.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and 3 years experience

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

    Minimum Skills and Experience Requirements

    • Robust computer skills and advanced working knowledge of web-based technology, social media, survey instruments, graphics, publication and media presentation software (i.e. Adobe Creative suite, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office suite), as well as competency with web design and development for mobile devices
    • Knowledge of inclusive practices in health communication
