Oversees all aspects of a sports program. Recruits athletes, mentors athletes, fosters athletic, emotional, and academic group of student athletes. Oversees sports equipment, practice plans and schedules, skill development, designs coaching strategies. Oversees public and media relations. Coordinates team travel and schedule. Adheres to all rules and regulations. Oversees assistant coaching staff.

Responsibilities for this position include: - Producing and leading a highly successful, championship level Softball team - Demonstrating a commitment to the safety, welfare, personal development and academic success of student-athletes - Demonstrating a commitment to and compliance with the principles and bylaws of the NCAA, policies and procedures of the ACC, the University and the Athletic Department - Making ethical decisions and sound-level judgment within a fast-paced and competitive environment - Managing, hiring, and leading a qualified staff of coaches - Building and managing effective relationships with prospective student-athletes, current student-athletes, university administrators, staff, alumni, donors, community, and other internal and external constituents - Complying fully with the mission statements of the University and the Department, the Department’s Head Coach Philosophy Statement as well as the principles of “The Pitt Promise”

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification A minimum of 5 years’ coaching experience (preferably at the NCAA Division l or comparable level) are required. An equivalent combination of work experience and high level playing experience may be substituted at the discretion of the University.

Essential Functions The duties and responsibilities of the Head Softball coach are to develop and manage all facets of organizing and leading a championship level Division I Softball program, to include (but not limited to): Recruitment and retention of student-athletes; Providing leadership and instruction on the personal and athletic development of student-athletes; Individual and team preparation, including organization of practices and competitions; Submitting annual budget requests and planning, monitoring, and administering the program’s budget and resources; Supervising a full complement of coaching staff members; Developing a competitive conference and non-conference schedule; Assisting with fundraising, alumni/community relations and development opportunities, as needed; In conjunction with the Performance Team, overseeing and monitoring in and out of season conditioning and training programs for peak performance and safety considerations; Monitoring and documenting efforts to maintain control of program and ensure compliance with all pertinent NCAA, ACC and Institutional policies and procedures; Overseeing and coordinating team travel arrangements; In conjunction with Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes, ensuring that student-athletes have access to the resources and time considerations to ensure academic success and graduation.
Physical Effort Required to stand for long periods of time at practices and games. Computer, phone, and desk work; extensive travel by air, car, bus, and plane.
