Description of primary duties and responsibilities:

Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state. Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The primary purpose of the Department of Athletics is to facilitate the university’s objective to create an environment whereby student-athletes are both progressing academically in a degree program leading towards graduation and successfully competing athletically against the highest
level of competition. Each student-athlete is viewed as an individual whose general health, fitness and emotional development are of significant value. The Athletics Department takes pride in its compatibility with the mission of the university and recognizes the opportunity to give Fayetteville State University recognition on the state, regional and national levels.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Head Track and Field Coach is a key member of the institution’s NCAA Division II
intercollegiate athletics staff and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. This is a 12-month position: August through June.
The Head Track and Field Coach must be an advisor, manager, teacher, boss, role model and leader. The incumbent is responsible for the overall management of the track and field program and must possess superior track and field knowledge, be highly organized, and able to meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, practice and game preparation, on-field coaching, scheduling, NCAA and CIAA compliance, public relations, student-work supervision, recruitment of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, a commitment to the
student-athlete’s academic progress and degree completion, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
The general details inherent to the principle functions of the position are as follows:

1. Administration, supervision and development of the track and field program for competition.
2. Recruit, train, and coach members of the track and field program.
3. Plan, conduct, and formulate practice sessions; manage field care and maintenance.
4. Schedule games with approval of the Athletics Director including attendance at all home and away contests.
5. Coordinate recruitment of talented student-athletes for the track and field team.
6. Administrative duties pertaining to the track and field program including budget
7. Encourage the academic progress, in conjunction with the faculty, of student-athletes toward graduation; assist student-athletes in obtaining appropriate personal and academic advisement as needed.
8. Promote the university, the Athletics Department and the track and field team through public relations activities and the Sports Information Office.
9. Maintain a professional level of conduct, including compliance with Conference and
NCAA legislation.
10. Coordinate and supervise fundraising activities for the track and field program and/or Athletics Department.
11. Attend and participate in departmental, conference, and college-wide meetings related to duties and responsibilities.
12. Serve on departmental, university, conference, regional and national committees, as requested.
13. Assist the Director of Athletics and Athletics Department staff in additional
responsibilities as needed.
The conduct of the Head Track and field Coach must be in accordance with the Fayetteville State University Code of Conduct as well as the Constitution and Bylaws of the NCAA and member conferences/associations. S/he must abide by all applicable university policies, rules and regulations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree of an accredited institution
-Seven years of collegiate coaching experience

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Master’s degree preferred
