The Colorado State University Libraries is the heart of learning and research on campus, connecting curious minds to vital information and knowledge. The library system includes a primary library, Morgan Library, and a branch library in CSU’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Libraries’ mission is to curate inclusive collections and provide equitable access to materials and services critical to student success, research brilliance and community engagement. The Libraries employs approximately 80 faculty and staff and 100 student employees who collaborate to meet the informational needs of users in the Libraries’ physical and digital spaces. The Acquisitions and Metadata Services unit manages the acquisition of library resources, including books, databases, and journals. The unit is also responsible for metadata creation to support resource discovery and access.

Position Summary
Colorado State University Libraries seeks a strategic, flexible, and results-oriented leader for the position of Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services (AMS). The Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services oversees the acquisition, processing, and discoverability of the library’s print and electronic materials. With strong support from the administration in the CSU Libraries, the Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services will help further the university goals and the integration of the CSU Principles of Community into the work of the CSU Libraries. This position will be a continuing faculty appointment.
The Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services will prioritize seamless discovery and access and ensure the library’s acquisitions and metadata management decisions are driven by the needs of our patrons. The Head provides leadership and vision for the work of the unit and oversees all activities, including electronic resource management, print acquisitions and processing, and metadata management. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections and Discovery, the Head collaborates across the library and will need to build and maintain strong working relationships with Collection Strategies, Finance, Library Technology Services, Resource Sharing, Special Collections, and CSU Pueblo Libraries Acquisitions.
The Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services is an active member of the Library Leadership Advisory Group, contributing to strategic planning and organizational development. This position is responsible for adapting staffing plans and workflows to meet the changing needs of the unit; working closely with Collection Strategies; collaborating with Library Finance personnel to manage financial resources; and ensuring clear communication between AMS and other library units.
Job-specific responsibilities:
  • Establishes priorities for unit projects, activities, and innovations related to acquisitions, electronic resources, and metadata management.
  • Reviews and evaluates operations with a goal of improving efficiency and user experience.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for improving resource access and discovery in Primo and other systems.
  • Fosters open communication within and beyond the unit; documents policies, procedures, and decisions as appropriate.
  • Assesses new developments in ILS software and implements workflow changes as appropriate.
  • Responsible for communication of financial and budget status with stakeholders and coordination between ILS and University financial system.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends and their implications for acquisitions and electronic resource management, metadata management, and discovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and resolve complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations in one or more of the department’s areas of responsibility (acquisitions, electronic resources, and/or metadata).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice and how they relate to the mission of the Libraries.
