Job Description:

Dean College seeks a Head Coach for its Men's and Women's Cross-Country program. This part-time, 10-month position reports to the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation. This position is responsible for all aspects of running a competitive cross-country program in the areas of the sport fundamentals, sportsmanship, leadership, film, scouting, recruiting, academic and conduct monitoring, and strength and conditioning. In addition to coaching, the incumbent will be responsible for recruiting and administrative duties in accordance with Dean College, Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and NCAA Division III regulations.

Position Duties:

  • Manage the recruitment efforts for the cross-country program - identifying a diverse pool of high school student-athletes who can excel academically and athletically, and who will contribute to the continuing success of the team and the College community at large.
  • Travel to high school and club games and tournaments, evaluating prospective players and generating applications to the College.
  • Promote an environment where student-athletes learn the values of citizenship, integrity, appreciation for cultural diversity, and respect and responsibility for self and others.
  • Direct the daily training and practice schedule.
  • Responsible for planning all in-season practice sessions and home/away opponents, inclusive of travel arrangements.
  • Provide oversight to the cross-country program as it relates to all GNAC, NCAA, and Dean College policies and regulations.
  • Monitor and lead continuous program and student-athlete development efforts, while supporting academic excellence and progress.
  • Manage coaching staff and team manager, delegating responsibilities and evaluating performance.
  • Coordinate with the athletic training and strength and conditioning staff regarding the well-being of student-athletes.
  • Perform administrative tasks which include budget management, reconciliation of travel expenses, and the ordering of supplies and equipment for the cross-country program.
  • Collaborate with campus partners for engagement opportunities for current student-athletes and alumni of the cross-country program.
  • Participates in college, departmental staff, conference and coach meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Competitive collegiate cross-country or distance running experience, or similar preferred.
  • Prior NCAA Division III Collegiate Cross-Country experience (as a student-athlete) preferred.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certification or willingness to obtain preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Able to work off hours, including weekends, nights and travel away for days at a time.
  • Excellent oral, written, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate with students, families, colleagues, and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
