Head Librarian, Archives & Special Collections

Location: Omaha, NEBRASKA

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost of Library Services, the Head of Archives & Special Collections leads the management and sustainability of these collections. The position is responsible for day-to-day management, including accessioning, processing, organizing, preservation, and access to the collections. The position will serve as a project manager for all digitization projects involving Archives & Special Collections. The position serves on the Library Leadership Council and is responsible for supervising one staff member and multiple student employees.


Qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years related library experience working in a university archive, 3-5 years’ experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience with national descriptive standards, such as MARC, EAD, DACS, and Dublin Core.
  • Experience with common software used to manage archives and special collections, such as ArchivesSpace, DSpace, and Omeka.
  • Knowledge of rights management, copyright law, and legal issues impacting archival collections
  • Working knowledge of conservation, such as climate and lighting
  • Knowledge of current trends in the profession
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Collaboration, teamwork, effective human relations skills.

 

Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) Certification
  • Experience with developing and managing grant funded projects
  • Supervisory experience
